Portsmouth Bombers 2 – St. Joseph 0

Dominica Football Premier League

(Benjamins Park; 27 February, 2011)

Portsmouth Bombers 2 – St. Joseph 0

The Concrete and Steel Bombers Football Team from Portsmouth emerged victorious, but had to be very patient. Fresh from a 3-1 victory over the South East Football Team, the young and energetic Portsmouth team was full of confidence going into battle. Both sides had scoring chances in the first half, with Bombers having the better chance when 19 year old Teddy Riviere failed to convert a simple tap in from just about 8 yards out. They kept pressing forward in search of a breakthrough but the St. Joseph goalkeeper was very much on top of his game. The St. Joseph team also had opportunities to take a priceless lead in the match, but with the inclusion of Jerome Thomas and Dominica’s #1 keeper for the past five years, Glenson Prince, the both teams went into the second half at 0 – 0.

The Portsmouth team wasted no opportunity and was back on the front foot at the beginning of the second half. They got saves upon saves from the St. Joseph goalkeeper and the Portsmouth fans began to wonder if this was going to be another goalless draw in which their home team had dominated most of the match. In a string of changes in the second half by the Portsmouth team, Clayton Morvan and Tyron John were able to break the dead lock in the 78th minute when Bombers right winger, Glenworth Elizee, took on the St. Joseph left back in the 18 yard box. Having forced his opponent to lose his footing and fall to the ground, Mr. Elizee smashed a shot unto the cross bar; the rebound falling gently to Eddie Thomas who has been in electric form of late, scoring 3 goals in his last 3 games. The Portsmouth faithful fans erupted with emotion as they had to wait more than three quarters of the game to see their team take the lead. From there it was all Bombers and it was only a matter of minutes before Eddie Thomas was speeding down the left flank taking on defender after defender and rolling it past the St. Joseph goalkeeper unto the leading scorer, Oris Jno.Baptiste, who then had one of the easiest tap-ins for the season, sending the Portsmouth team was cruising 2-0. The exhaustion was clearly seen on the faces of the St. Joseph footballers, as the size of the Portsmouth field had an impact on their fitness levels. Those who witnessed the game had to be very patient but the break through was well worth it.

The Concrete and Steel Bombers Football Team currently sit 2nd in the table behind Harlem Football Team.

Insidepossie would like to wish the triumphant Bombers all the Best in their future Matches.
